West Ham have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the season.

Mail Sport revealed on Monday how the two clubs were close to an agreement for the England midfielder with a deal now been reached.

Phillips now has permission to conclude a move to the London Stadium upon his return from the United Arab Emirates, where City have spent time during the winter break.

Details over the make-up of a option for West Ham to make the deal permanent still need to be fully confirmed but that won’t scupper the move.

West Ham are open to making the deal permanent under the right financial conditions.

The deal will also see West Ham pay the vast majority of Phillips’ wages.

A number of rival Premier League clubs had registered an interested in Phillips but have been put off by the conditions of the deal.

Juventus have also shown a major interest and continue to monitor the situation – however it would take a huge turnaround for the Italian club to hijack West Ham’s move now.

It is understood City were initially looking for a £6million loan fee for Phillips, in addition to offloading a large percentage of his wages.

There have also been concerns from some clubs that it may take Phillips a while to regain match sharpness after 18 months of not playing regular first team football.

Newcastle and Crystal Palace are among the teams to have looked into signing the 28-year-old.

Phillips has been with the City squad at their warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi during their winter break but he will now fly back before finalising the move.
