Utah Women’s Soccer Adds Travis Smith to Coaching Staff

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women’s soccer coach Hideki Nakada announced the newest addition to his staff on Wednesday in the person of assistant coach Travis Smith, who joins the program after spending the last three seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks.

“I am excited to welcome Travis to our coaching staff,” said Nakada. “He is an effective and detail-oriented coach who will no doubt have a positive impact on our student-athletes. His authenticity and the passion he brings to the table will be influential and benefit our program greatly.”

Smith’s three years in Lawrence saw him help the Jayhawks rack up 20 victories, including wins over squads ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation and he earned a promotion to a full-time assistant prior to the start of the 2022 campaign. Before joining the Jayhawks, the San Antonio native was in charge of the soccer program at Brandeis High School, where his pupils included three all-state and seven all-region selections. He helped the squad to a district title in 2018 and, two years later, the Broncos finished the season ranked at No. 9 in the state.

Smith served as the head soccer coach at East Central High School as well, and his experience at the college level includes stops at Texas, Oregon and St. Mary’s University. Smith graduated from the University of Texas in 2013 and later earned his Masters of Education from Lamar University in 2021.
