Atlético Ottawa kept the unbeaten run at the start of the season alive with a convincing victory against 10-man Halifax Wanderers in Nova Scotia. Goals from Rubén del Campo, Manny Aparicio and Ballou Tabla propelled Atlético to the top of the table on Saturday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS

Atlético Ottawa started a busy week with a resounding victory in the first road match of the campaign, winning 3-1 against Halifax Wanderers.

Halifax was reduced to 10 men in the 21st minute after Lorenzo Callegari was sent off for a challenge on Manny Aparicio.

Rubén del Campo scored his first goal for Atlético Ottawa, breaking the deadlock (39′) with a left-footed effort from the top of the box. Assisted by Matteo de Brienne.

Atlético doubled their lead in the second half as Manny Aparicio converted Kris Twardek’s cross with a first-time volley (56′).

Ballou Tabla scored his first goal since returning to the club in the off-season, converting Gabriel Antinoro’s cross (73′).

Riley Ferraszzo scored a late consolation goal for the hosts in the 89th minute.

Goalkeeper of the Year nominee in 2023, Rayane Yesli, started his first match for the club and was moments away from keeping a clean sheet.

Yesli made four (4) saves.

Asked about his decision to start Yelsi, González explained that it was because he would be starting the Canadian championship mid-week and wanted to give the goalkeeper a few minutes.

Atlético Ottawa took full advantage of their numerical superiority, dominating at the attacking end of the pitch.

Ottawa has 15 shots, 8 on target while also leading in tackles (16) tackles and aerial duels won (59.1%).

Rubén Del Campo’s first-ever club goal and Ballou Tabla’s first goal since returning to the capital means that Atléticon has five different goal scorers for the six goals scored in the opening three matches this season.

Manny Aparicio is the current leading scorer, with two goals.

Atlético Ottawa returns to TD Place with two matches in five days, facing Valour FC in the Canadian Championship on Wednesday before clashing in the CPL at the weekend.

Wednesday’s match (KO 7pm ET, live on OneSoccer) is the start of the domestic cup campaign for Ottawa as the club from the capital competes for the Voyageurs Cup (never won by a CPL team) and an automatic…
