Man Utd ‘most serious’ about signing Barcelona’s ‘great jewel’ as Ten Hag’s transfer priority comes to light

Man Utd-linked Fati

Man Utd are reportedly ‘most serious’ about signing FC Barcelona sensation Ansu Fati, who is not playing as much as he’d like for the Spanish giants.

The 20-year-old progressed through the ranks at Barcelona and he has already played 88 times for the La Liga outfit. He has grabbed 25 goals and nine assists for them at senior level.

The left winger was quickly earmarked as a future star for Barcelona from a young age and in 2021 he penned a long-term contract that runs until 2027.

Barcelona often include daft release clauses in player contracts and Fati’s includes a buyout clause of around €1bn. Man Utd were linked with Fati before he signed this bumper new deal.

Under Xavi, Barcelona are sitting pretty at the top of La Liga this season. Fati has played 30 times across all competitions but this only includes seven starts in the league.

Spanish outlet Sport are reporting that Man Utd are ‘interested in the future of Fati’. Erik ten Hag’s side have him as a ‘priority’ should Barcelona ‘open the door’ for him to leave in the summer.

It is noted that Barcelona ‘do not want to listen’ to United at the moment but Fati’s game time up until the summer ‘could be decisive’.

The Red Devils are known to be in the market for a ‘top-tier striker’ following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Fati is capable of playing up front but he is perhaps best operated on the flanks.

United’s reported interest in Dusan Vlahovic is brought up but they claim that ‘the truth is that the English club would like to explore Fati’s option, taking advantage of the fact that he has been losing minutes at Barcelona and would no longer be the undisputed starter’.

Fati ‘expected more minutes’ at Barcelona and the report adds that he has been negatively impacted by ‘the inclusion of one more midfielder’ in Xavi’s new preferred formation.

As for the clubs interested in Fati, ‘several’ Premier League sides are keen but the ‘most serious interest’ is from Man Utd, who believe that there is ‘room for negotiation’ with Barcelona.

The report also states that while Barcelona are unwilling to sell Fati right now, they ‘are clear that a million-dollar sale will be necessary at the end of the season’.

Any move for Fati will be dependent on his number of appearances until the summer, but you imagine that United will instead look to sign a player like Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen who can be a focal point up front.
