Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes Chelsea want to get rid of him

Chelsea have left Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of the Champions League squad.

The Blues had to leave out Benoit Badiashile as well in order to fit some of their January signings in the squad.

As per The Telegraph, the former Barcelona and Arsenal striker is thought to be shocked and disappointed with the club’s decision and he believes that the Blues now want to get rid of him.

The 33-year-old joined Chelsea from Barcelona at the start of the season and it has been a difficult season for him so far. Aubameyang has not been able to hit top form and he has scored just three goals across all competitions.

The Gabon international has a contract until 2024 at Stamford Bridge and it will be interesting to see if the Blues decide to part ways with him at the end of the season.

Chelsea have improved their attack immensely with the arrivals of players like Mykhaylo Mudryk, Joao Felix, and David Fofana last month. Aubameyang is unlikely to get sufficient game time for the remainder of the campaign and it would make sense for him to move on and join another club.

The player is thought to be on wages of around £160,000 per week and Chelsea would want to get a high-earning fringe player like him off their books as well.

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Graham Potter has taken responsibility for the decision and claimed that the striker has done nothing wrong and it was his decision to leave the player out.

“It was my decision and I can understand he is disappointed because it’s a tough call,” said Potter. “He’s done nothing wrong at all, but someone had to miss out and it’s nothing bad against him and he’s done nothing wrong at all.”
