Oakland, CA – Oakland Roots Sports Club announces the signing of former US Men’s National Team striker and MLS Cup Champion, Dominic Dwyer. The 33-year-old most recently played in MLS for Atlanta United culminating his 10th MLS Season where he scored over 80 goals in the top flight of US Soccer. The Cuckfield, UK native got his start in the game with the Norwich City Academy starting at the age of 10.

“Adding a player to the mix with the pedigree of Dom is going to be a huge boost to the team and the locker room,” said Oakland Roots Head Coach Noah Delgado. “He comes to Oakland with experience at some of the highest levels of the game and gives us another dangerous goal scoring threat.”

Dwyer comes to Oakland with MLS experience from Sporting Kansas City, Orlando City SC, Toronto FC, and Atlanta United. He won the MLS Cup with Kansas City in 2013 and the U.S. Open Cup in 2012 and 2015, bringing a winning pedigree to Roots. His most prolific season in MLS was in 2014 where he scored 22 goals in league play.

The experience coming to Oakland goes beyond MLS and includes four National Team caps with the USMNT all coming in 2017. This span included goals vs Ghana in a friendly and Panama in the Gold Cup, a tournament he and the team would go on to win in 2017. This will also not be Dwyer’s first time in USL having represented Orlando in the USL on loan in 2013 where he scored 15 goals in 13 games.
