Chelsea told ‘things change quickly’ as £6m star digs heels in over January transfer

Man Utd target Marcus Thuram smiles during a pre-match warm-up

Chelsea have been told ‘things can change quickly’ as they struggle to persude Marcus Thuramn to join them from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Blues are on the lookout for a new striker in January following the season-ending injury to Armando Broja and amid the poor form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is apparently now ‘depressed’ and desperate to leave.

Thuram, who signed for Gladbach in 2019 from French outfit Guingamp, has been in stunning form this term as he has grabbed ten goals and three assists in 15 Bundesliga outings.

The 25-year-old, who provided two assists for France as the European side reached the final of the World Cup, is likely to leave the German outfit in the coming months as he is out of contract in the summer.

Reports suggest Gladbach are willing to see Thuram leave for ‘as little as £6m’ in January.

Sport 1 journalist Patrick Berger says Chelsea, Barcelona and Inter Milan are all ‘in the race’ to sign Thuram, with the Blues attempting to beat their rivals to the punch by getting the deal over the line now rather than waiting for him to be available on a free transfer.

As it stands, Thuramn wants to wait, but Berger also said ‘things can change quickly’ and Thuram could be persuaded by a move to Stamford Bridge before the end of the window.

Thuram would be teaming up with Joao Felix if he joins Chelsea after the Portugal international agreed to a loan switch from Atletico Madrid.

As part of the deal Chelsea will pay a loan fee of around £9million and also cover the player’s £5.3m wages.

“Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge,” Felix said on the Chelsea website.

Atletico confirmed Felix had extended his contract with them for one more season, until June 2027.

Felix made a total of 131 appearances for Atletico, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists.

“From Atletico Madrid we wish Joao Felix every success in this new professional stage,” the LaLiga club said in a statement.
