Timbers Fall Short to LAFC with 3-2 Road Result

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Portland Timbers earned a point on the road with a 2-2 draw against the Eastern Conference side Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field on Saturday night. The Timbers led the match on two separate occasions with goals from Felipe Mora and Santiago Moreno, but Columbus fought back to equalize each time. Portland will continue its three-game road stretch at LAFC next Saturday, April 27.

More Goals For Mora

Felipe Mora scored his fourth goal of the campaign, scoring in a fourth straight match for Portland. It marks the first time any Timbers player has scored in four consecutive matches since Brian Fernandez scored in five straight from May 15 to June 30 in 2019. Mora is one of three MLS players to have scored in four or more consecutive matches this season, alongside Messi and Dejan Joveljic. Notably, three of Mora’s goals this season have come on the road.

Road Results

Today’s match marked the first of three straight on the road for the Timbers, with away matches at LAFC and Charlotte FC in the coming weeks. Portland has earned back-to-back road draws after collecting a point at Sporting Kansas City on April 7 with a 3-3 comeback result. The Timbers have scored multiple goals in four of five road matches this season, tallying nine in that span.

Goal-Scoring Plays

POR – Felipe Mora (Eryk Williamson), 10th minute: Santiago Moreno combined through the middle of the field with Eryk Williamson, who slipped a pass through three Crew defenders into the box. Felipe Mora found the space and slotted a shot into the far post corner of the net.

CLB – Cucho Hernández (Diego Rossi), 51st minute: Diego Rossi received the ball inside the box and cut a pass back towards the penalty spot. Cucho Hernández got himself open and placed a right-footed shot into the lower left corner of the goal.

POR – Santiago Moreno (Evander), 57th minute: With his back to goal in the box, Felipe Mora laid the ball of for Evander, who played a short one-touch pass for Santiago Moreno. Moreno took a touch towards the six-yard box and finished a low shot on frame.

CLB – Steven Moreira (Aidan Morris), 74th minute: Aidan Morris played the ball centrally for Steven Moreira, who struck the ball from distance into the upper left corner of the goal.

Portland has scored 18 goals through nine matches this season.
