Magpies emerge as favourites for Giorgi Mamardashvili

Chelsea looking to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili

After another Premier League defeat for Newcastle, this time against Man United, the Magpies have one game left to win in order to maintain their European aspirations, as well as hoping results elsewhere go their way.

Chelsea’s win at Brighton sees them in the box seat now, however, if the Blues lose to Bournemouth on the final day and Newcastle win at Brentford, it’s Eddie Howe’s side that will be the happier of the two outfits.

Were Man City to win the FA Cup Final, that potentially opens up another European spot, so there may be a way in through the back door in any event.

Newcastle negotiating for Mamardashvili

That scenario certainly can’t be relied upon, however, so it’s incumbent upon all members of the playing staff to give their maximum in the final 90 minutes of the season.

Once the 2023/24 season is all done and dusted, matters can turn to transfer-related issues, with Newcastle looking to strengthen in vital areas in order to help them return to the top table of English football.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is on Newcastle’s radar

It’s been a tough campaign, not helped by long-term injuries to key players including goalkeeper, Nick Pope.

Martin Dubravka has stood in for much of the campaign, though it was clear from his performance at Old Trafford that the club need another custodian in their ranks.

According to Fichajes, Newcastle are already negotiating with Valencia for their towering 23-year-old keeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili.

A price of €40m has been mooted for a player that cost Los Che just €1m, such has been his impact on La Liga.

Whilst that might be a little too pricey for the Magpies, if they’re able to get the Spanish top-flight outfit to lower the price, it’s a deal that could get over the line as soon as the summer transfer window opens for business on July 1.
