Record-Breaking Four Panthers Earn Spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Team


PITTSBURGH – Four student-athletes represented the Pitt women’s soccer team on the 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s All-Atlantic Region Teams. Deborah Abiodun, Sarah Schupanksy, and Amanda West each were named to the Second Team with Landy Mertz earning a spot on the Third Team. This is the most athletes named in in program history.

Abiodun started in 19 games out of 24 played this season. She registered 15 points off of six goals and three assists, including securing the game winner against Ohio State in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. She posted 52 shots, with 26 on target while playing 1424 total minutes this season. Along with this honor, Abiodun also earned a spot on the All-ACC Freshman and Third Team this year. The Oyo, Nigerian native was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer mid-season Top-100 Freshman list earlier this season – coming in at No. 18.  

A native of Pittsburgh, P.A., Schupansky played in all 24 games for the Panthers this season, starting in 22 games. She registered a season program record of 36 points off of 11 goals and 14 assists, including securing the game winners against Bowling Green (9/3/23), Boston College (9/30/23), and Wake Forest (10/8/23). The junior was able to produce 65 shots this season with 31 on target. Schupansky adds this honor to her resume next to becoming the first Panther to earn All-ACC First Team honors earlier this season. She also earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer mid-season Top-100 list earlier this season – coming in at No. 42.

West started in 21 games out of a record 24 played this season – totaling 1718. Her contributions this year continue to hold the all-time scoring and assist leader title to her name. The fifth year secured 11 goals on the season with nine assists to total 31 points. She posted 89 shots with 47 on target and posted two game winning goals for the Panthers this season. West’s efforts in the historic game against North Carolina secured the spot in the semifinals in the ACC Championships for the Panthers. The fifth year headed in the game-winning-goal in the first 10-minute overtime period after a clean assist from Mertz and Schupansky. This is West’s third time earning a spot on an All-Atlantic Region team.
