Aston Villa have been strongly linked with a potential transfer move for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries amid big praise for the player from Dutch legend Rafael van der Vaart.
The former Ajax and Real Madrid man believes Dumfries is one of his country’s best players at the moment as he praised his all-round qualities ahead of what could be an important summer for him at Euro 2024.
Dumfries has just won another Serie A title with Inter and his contract situation means he’s sure to have plenty of suitors this summer, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United linked with him in the recent past.
Now it’s claimed that Villa could be in for Dumfries as he has just a year left on his current deal at the San Siro, making him a possible bargain opportunity on the market.
It remains to be seen if Villa can win the race to sign the 28-year-old, but if they do it’s clear they’re getting a top talent, according to Van der Vaart.

“Dumfries is our big star,” said the pundit.
“He is really our very best player at the moment, he’s involved in everything.
“He has provided seven assists in the last seven games, but it could have been even more. He is always on the move. A really great player.
“His touches are also good, which was different in the past. He is the ideal full-back.”
