Arsenal legend Wright tells Ten Hag to replace three players at Man Utd this summer

Ian Wright speaks about Man Utd

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested Erik ten Hag should replace three players at Man Utd to strengthen his starting XI next season.

The Red Devils have had a good seaon under Ten Hag so far despite their loss to Newcastle over the weekend seeing them drop out of the top four.

Ten Hag has already guided Man Utd to Carabao Cup glory with the Red Devils also in the FA Cup semi-finals and Europa League  quarter-finals.

And there are likely to be funds available come the end of the season to help the Dutchman strengthen once again in the summer transfer window.

Wright reckons Man Utd boss Ten Hag could do with upgrades on Antony, Jadon Sancho and David de Gea heading into next season.

“That man [Erik ten Hag] has got to get everything he needs to try and do his job well and play the football he wants to play,” the former Arsenal striker Wrighty’s House podcast.

“For what he’s done at Manchester United this season, he deserves that.

“I still don’t think the right-hand side of the team is working right now. You’ve got [Jadon] Sancho and Antony who are capable of doing unbelievable stuff.

“Antony used to have so many options [at Ajax] – he could cut in and target the No. 9 or there would be a player overlapping him. He had so many different options to get the best out of him.

“The same for Sancho at Borussia Dortmund. You have two unbelievable players who can do loads of great stuff but they’ve not been put into a system where they can thrive.

“I can’t wait for Erik ten Hag to get the right-back he wants and the No. 9 he wants.

“The goalkeeper situation – you listen to the Jacob Murphy interview and you don’t often hear stuff like that, it was brilliant to hear.

“At some stage something needs to be done about the goalkeeper [De Gea]. I want to see all of those things before I judge Erik ten Hag too much.”

Man Utd play Brentford on Wednesday night with rivals for the top four Newcastle heading to West Ham with both clubs on 50 points.
