Legacy Transfer MacKenzie Frimpong-Ellertson Signs with Washington

SEATTLE – Washington added a familiar name to its roster on Wednesday with the addition of legacy transfer Mackenzie Frimpong-Ellertson from Washington State.

The former Cougar is the daughter of Husky legend, Pac-12 Hall of Famer and current UW assistant coach Tina Frimpong-Ellertson, a standout for both the Dawgs and the United States Women’s National Team during her playing career.

Making a name for herself in the league, Mackenzie Frimpong-Ellertson has been a four-year starter across the state in Pullman, starting a total of 50 matches for WSU. She comes to Seattle with one season of elegibility remaining as a graduate student.

“Mack grew up at Husky Soccer Stadium and for her to play her final collegiate season as a Husky is very special,” head coach Nicole Van Dyke said. “Mack has been an impact player in the Pac-12 for four years and we are so fired up about bringing her experience and leadership to Montlake next season. Mack’s love for the game, drive to win, and desire to get the most out of her teammates is infectious and we can’t wait for her to wear purple. Go Dawgs!”

The Vancouver, Washington, native jumped right onto the scene as a rookie, earning Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors with four goals and an assist in 2019. Joining the Cougar program as the No. 28 ranked prospect in the country per TopDrawerSoccer, Frimpong-Ellertson sent WSU to the NCAA Sweet 16 with the game-winning goal over No. 3 Virginia.

The following season, Frimpong-Ellertson made her biggest impact by setting up her teammates. As a sophomore she led the Cougars with four assists on the season, starting eight matches.

Frimpong-Ellertson started all 21 matches for Washington State in 2021, posting a goal and an assist, before starting 10 matches in Crimson and Gray as a senior, totaling four points on a goal and two assists.
