LOS ANGELES – Angel City Football Club (ACFC) today confirmed that the team has traded midfielder Cari Roccaro to the Chicago Red Stars. In exchange, ACFC will receive $65,000 in allocation money.

“Cari was an integral part of our inaugural team on and off the field,” said ACFC General Manager Angela Hucles. “Her veteran leadership and connection to our fans and community will be missed. We wish her the best and hope to see her continue to elevate in her professional career.”

Roccaro appeared in 21 of 22 matches in 2022, 20 of which were starts. She saw 1,646 minutes on the pitch, the sixth most of any player on the roster. A seven-year veteran of the league, Rocarro scored the first four goals of her professional career with the club, making her the second highest goal-scorer. Her four goals not only bolstered the team’s record, they equated to 4,000 meals donated through DoorDash’s Goals that Give program.

Roccaro was chosen fifth overall in the 2016 NWSL Draft by the Houston Dash, where she appeared in 18 matches for a total of 1,500 minutes. In 2018, Roccaro signed with the North Carolina Courage, where she made her debut against Houston in a 1-1 draw. She made her first appearance for the U.S. U-20 National Team in 2009. During her tenure with the U-20s, Roccaro won the 2012 Tokyo U-20 World Cup and served as co-captain in 2014.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Roccaro was named Big East Rookie of the Year in 2012, recording six goals and one assist for the season. In her senior season, she led a Notre Dame defense that allowed just eleven goals during the season.
