Xavi Laments 'Sluggish' Barcelona, Christensen Injured

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez labelled his side as “sluggish” in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Getafe in the Spanish La Liga.

Pedri scored the game’s only goal in the 35th minute at Camp Nou to ensure Barca remain three points clear of [[Real Madrid] in second.

The triumph comes after the Blaugrana won last weekend’s Super Copa in Riyadh 3-1 over Los Blancos,

Barca won their semi-final over Real Betis on penalties, playing 120 minutes on that occasion.

“I don’t think we have been good, we’ve been sluggish,” Xavi told reporters.

“We didn’t attack well. We defended well. It’s difficult to attack against such a low block line.

“We didn’t play well. We have to improve. But the victory is very important. We kept a clean sheet.

“It’s not our best home game. We felt the mental fatigue from the Supercopa de Espana.

“We paid for it. It’s an important win but we’re not at our best. We have to be honest.

“We were good without the ball, but we didn’t generate. It cost us. We took three points without playing well.”

Barcelona did pick up an injury concern out of the match too, with Andreas Christensen replaced at half-time with discomfort in his hamstring.

Elsewhere, Real won 2-0 at Athletic Bilbao with Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos scoring.
