Sutton doubts Chelsea owner Boehly will be able to ‘tolerate’ Potter much longer after City loss

Chelsea boss Graham Potter shouts at his players

Chris Sutton thinks Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will already be doubting whether he made the right decision in appointing Graham Potter as manager.

The Englishman took over from Thomas Tuchel in September after reports that the German didn’t see eye to eye with Boehly over a number of issues.

Chelsea have only won one of their last eight Premier League matches with Potter’s side now tenth in the table having played 17 matches.

Their latest loss came at home to defending champions Manchester City with an injury-hit Chelsea side defeated 1-0 after Jack Grealish teed up Riyad Mahrez for the winner in the second half.

And former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea striker Sutton reckons Boehly will already be losing patience with Potter following a run of dismal results.

“It was a difficult pre-season for Chelsea – there were noises coming out of it that Thomas Tuchel wasn’t happy,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“He ended up leaving, and it’s been difficult for Graham Potter coming but this is a Chelsea team that simply aren’t doing well enough.

“Did Chelsea play well? I thought they did in the first half but in the second half they were overrun.

“Is this the Chelsea that the fans want to see where they are applauding them for their effort? Chelsea, over the past 20 years, have been a team who have won big trophies and they look miles off it.

“The question is how much can Todd Boehly tolerate? Chelsea go to City at the weekend in the FA Cup – if they go out there, I just wonder whether they will view this as a job too big for Graham Potter.”

Speaking on Chelsea’s growing injury list, Potter told reporters: “It doesn’t make it any easier.

“Raheem [Sterling’s] was the first action of the game, a backheel, a strange one, and Christian [Pulisic] was at full pelt and hurt his knee.

“Mason [Mount] got a kick yesterday. I’ve never experienced anything like it but it is what it is, we have to carry on.

“I thought there was a lot right today, the performance level was good against a top side. There was a lot to like.

“Is…
