November 25, 2022 – Canadian Premier League (CPL)Pacific FC News Release

Langford, BC – Pacific FC today announced the re-signing of homegrown talent Sean Young to a new two-year contract.

“Sean is a player that is ready to take the next step when it comes to his impact on our team and the league,” said James Merriman, Head Coach, Pacific FC. “We have challenged him to come in extremely motivated and be decisive in his ambition. He has great potential as a dominant box-to-box central midfielder with his range and capacity to cover the entire field.”

Young, 21, is one of the first players to come through the youth system on Vancouver Island and sign a professional contract with Pacific. He signed with his local club in July 2020 and has been representing the Island ever since. Young, who stands at six-foot-two, appeared in 29 matches over 1718 minutes in 2022, scoring one goal.

Other players to be re-signed by Pacific this week include midfielder Abdul Binate, who joined the club last season. Binate,19, comes from Laval, Quebec and spent time with CF Montreal Academy’s under-23 squad before heading west. Despite an injury early in the season, Binate’s attitude and approach to the game earned him a spot with the club moving forward.

“Abby is a young player with good potential,” said Merriman. “He is feeling strong, motivated and wants to be able to contribute to the team this season on the field.”

In defence, Georges Mukumbliwa (MOO-Kum-BILL-Wah) has also re-signed with the club for the coming season. The right-footed Mukumbilwa, 23, who standing at 5-foot-11, made 20 appearances for Pacific in 2022 and became known for his speed on the pitch.

“I believe Georges is a top defender in this league and very versatile player,” said Merriman. “He can play on the right or left in a back four or five and can also play in higher positions.”

Between the posts, goalkeeper Emil Gazdov (GAZ-DOV) will remain with Pacific. Gazdov played in two matches in the 2022 season and served as the backup ‘keeper to Callum Irving.

“Emil has big potential as a young Canadian goalkeeper,” said Merriman. “He has continued to mature on and off the field as a young professional.”
