Etihad Player of the Month: Santiago Rodríguez Claims April Award

New York City Football Club is pleased to confirm that forward Santiago Rodríguez has been awarded Etihad’s Player of the Month for April.

The Uruguayan claims the prize for a second consecutive month with his performances for City earning rave reviews. Rodríguez went the full ninety in all four of New York City’s games in April, helping his team secure 10 points from a possible 12 in MLS.

Rodríguez started the month with a goal from the penalty spot against Atlanta United – his composure under pressure helping City take a point against the Five Stripes. While he did not register an assist in the next game against New England Revolution, he was again a threat in the final third.

Back on the scoresheet the next week against D.C. United, his well-taken finish opened the scoring for City as they recorded a 2-0 win. Not content with just scoring in April, he set-up Julián Fernández’s stoppage time goal with a fantastic run and pass into the box.

Rounding out April in style, the 24-year-ol saved his best for last as his injury-time assist for teammate Alonso Martínez helped maintain New York City’s winning run.

Rodríguez continues to be a vital part of Nick Cushing’s team and following a string of impressive showings he has proven a worth winner of the Player of the Month award for April. The Club would like to congratulate Santi on this achievement.
