Jardell, Landefeld and Smith Honored as PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month


EAST LANSING, MICH. – Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. Throughout the 2022-23 season, deserving Spartan student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.
 
The honorees for October were Monique Jardell (field hockey), Kellan Landefeld (men’s soccer) and Davis Smith (men’s basketball).
 
Jardell, a fifth-year goalkeeper from Granville, Ohio, is a kinesiology major. She is a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad and Academic All-Big Ten member. This season, Jardell played every minute in goal for the Spartans, posting 104 saves and a 2.28 goals against average. She has been passionate about giving back to the local community, being part of Student-Athlete Food Drive, Be The Match, Athletics Blood Drive, Green Bandana Project, Teams for Toys and virtual elementary classroom opportunities during her time at MSU.
 
Landefeld, a redshirt junior midfielder from Livonia, Mich., is a finance major. He appeared in 14 games this season, tallying one goal and one assist for three points, and recently earning College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. As a sophomore, Landefeld earned Academic All-Big Ten honors while playing in 15 games including five starts. He active off the field with the teammates with various community initiatives.
 
Smith, a junior guard from Atlanta, Ga., is a global and international studies in society major with a minor in human behavior and social services. In his three seasons at Michigan State, he has appeared in 20 games. Smith started a community initiative this summer with his mother, hosting a school supply drive on campus, providing free backpacks, pencil holders, markers, pencils and more for local children. In addition, he has also been involved with March is Reading and other elementary engagement in the Greater Lansing area.
