Trio Named Academic All-District – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three members of the Ohio State men’s soccer team earned CSC Academic All-District Honors Tuesday. Devyn Etling, Thomas Gilej and Owen Sullivan were recognized for their efforts in the classroom.

To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. The student-athlete must also have completed one full calendar year at her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Etling, a native of Ashland, Ohio, is an Ohio State graduate with a degree in Sport Industry. He is currently working on a graduate degree. The midfielder has earned numerous academic honors during his career, including the prestigious Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award in 2022. He also is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Gilej, a junior defender from Wuppertal, Germany, also was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2022 and earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2021.

Sullivan, a redshirt junior defender from Dublin, Ohio, is an Ohio State captain this year. He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

The Buckeyes are preparing to take on Wake Forest in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. First touch is at 6 p.m. Thursday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. ESPN+ will stream the contest.
