Under-Fire Inzaghi & Inter Pulling in ‘One Direction’ Ahead of Barcelona Clash

Under-Fire Inzaghi & Inter Pulling in 'One Direction' Ahead of Barcelona Clash

Simone Inzaghi insists that he and Inter Milan are pulling in the same direction as pressure mounts ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Nerazzurri have underwhelmed in Serie A this season, with 12 points form eight games, while they are third in a tough group in the Champions League behind Bayern Munich and Barca.

“I have a club and a management where we go together in one direction,” Inzaghi said.

“We’ve been working like this for a year and a half with daily meetings.

“On my situation I’ve already said that we coaches depend on results, if they don’t come the coach is the first one questioned. I’m used to it.”

Inzaghi took over at Inter after Antonio Conte’s departure, having led the side to the title in 2020-21.

Under Inzaghi, Inter had a title fight with rivals AC Milan, who got the edge to win last season’s Scudetto.

In that context, their slow start puts him under pressure, and a tough Champions League draw hasn’t helped.

“Barcelona are very strong, they’re one of the teams that play the best football in Europe,” he said.

“We know what importance the match has, the group is open. The round is prohibitive, but we are Inter and we will try to play with all our strengths.”

“It’s a tough moment because of the results. I think we played a good game (against Roma), we would have deserved a different result but we are aware that we must do more.”

Elsewhere, Liverpool will be desperate for a return to form against Scottish club Rangers, while Tottenham go to Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.
