Huge summer ahead at Bayern Munich as Lewandowski eyes move away amid President’s criticism of stars

Huge summer ahead at Bayern Munich as Lewandowski eyes move away amid President's criticism of stars

Bayern Munich have just wrapped up a 10th-consecutive Bundesliga title but amongst the fervour and celebrations, there is an air of trepidation.

The six-time European Cup winners are at a crossroads and whilst it’s a position they have been in before, this time there are no ready-made replacements waiting in the wings to pick up the baton.

With striker Robert Lewandowski itching for a move away this summer and honorary president Uli Hoeness launching an all-out attack on the club’s stars, life at Bayern could feel very different by the start of next season.

The upcoming summer transfer window will prove to be a pivotal one to a Bayern side in dire need of freshening up.

Bayern Striker Robert Lewandowski has signalled his intention to leave the club this summer

Life without Lewandowski

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has signalled his intention to move on this summer after eight trophy-laden years in Bavaria with Chelsea and Barcelona amongst the interested parties.

The 33-year-old has broken every goalscoring record at Bayern since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 but an over reliance on his goals could take some time for Bayern to adjust to, should his request for a transfer this summer be granted.

The Pole has contributed 344 goals in 374 games with 46 goals scored this season alone – a staggering tally that will no doubt hamper Bayern if their star striker moves on.

But understandably Lewandowski is ready to trying his hand in a different league after spending 12 years in Germany.

The striker is rumoured to favour a move to Barcelona this summer but Bayern still harbour ambitions of keeping hold of their man until the end of his current deal in 2023.

Meanwhile, forward Serge Gnabry is stalling on agreeing new terms at the Allianz Arena with his current deal also set to end in 2023.
