Villarreal are reportedly keen to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso after a string of impressive performances on loan.
Lo Celso joined the Yellow Submarine in January on a loan deal lasting until the end of the season. The Argentinian midfielder has impressed during his brief spell in Spain, and played a vital role in Villarreal reaching the Champions League semi-finals. Now, Unai Emery wants to land Lo Celso permanently once the transfer window is open.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Villarreal want to arrange a deal with Spurs to keep Lo Celso at the club. However, the initial loan deal does not have an option to buy him outright once the loan move is finished.
This means the Spanish club will have to negotiate a deal from scratch with Spurs for his services.
Lo Celso struggled to settle down in England. Across three seasons, the midfielder made 55 Premier League appearances – and only managed to contribute one goal and three assists.
That being said, the former Real Betis man is also reportedly keen on a move away from North London.
But despite all parties being interested, a transfer may not be straightforward. Having paid £27.2m for Lo Celso, Spurs are believed to want in the region of €50m for his services.

However, Spurs insider John Wenham believes Villarreal will be able to afford Lo Celso following their Champions League success.
Wenham, who regularly breaks Spurs news on social media, believes that the prize fund from a semi-final finish will be enough to land the Argentinian permanently.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “People are saying they can’t afford him but we got plenty of money when we got to the Champions League final.
“They made the semis and will get a very decent chunk of broadcast money and prize money.
