West Ham United are targeting Corinthians teenager Wesley as part of the club’s move in a different direction this summer.

Mail Sport understands the Hammers watched the opening game of the Brazilian Serie A season last month to make checks on the 19-year-old.

Wesley, who can operate off either wing or in behind a striker, is valued at around £21million by Corinthians, who have already knocked back West Ham’s opening proposal.

Sporting director Tim Steidten was in Sao Paulo last summer for talks with the seven-time national champions over other potential targets.

But interest in Wesley has ramped up over the past few months and his Serie A form – scoring twice in the first five matches – is alerting a host of clubs across Europe.

AC Milan have trailed the youngster, although formalising their interest will depend on the future of Portugal international Rafael Leao, while Atletico Madrid have also asked to be kept informed.

Brighton and Crystal Palace are also said to be keeping tabs on Wesley’s situation, with his representatives set for a trip to the UK in the coming weeks.
