Shaw Earns Prestigious Golden Boot Award

Bunny Shaw

Former Lady Vol Bunny Shaw added the Golden Boot award to her growing trophy case following a tremendous season with Manchester City, the Women’s Super League announced on Saturday.

The Golden Boot is awarded annually to the top goal scorer in the WSL. Shaw, who tallied 21 goals before a season-ending injury, boasted an eight-goal lead over the next closest player.

During the 2023-24 campaign, she was only one goal shy of tying the WSL record for goals in a season despite being limited to 18 matches. In March, she became Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer with her 67th goal, and now boasts 72 career goals which represents an incredible clip of 0.85 goals per game in her career with the club.

Along with all-time goals, she also left her mark in the Man City record book in hat tricks, collecting eight so far in her incredible career. During a match in December, Shaw added herself to the WSL record book with three hat tricks in a single season.

Shaw was tabbed FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year and WSL Player of the Year in May, representing an impressive award haul following her stellar season. With the Golden Boot honor, she becomes just the second former college athlete to win the award on the women’s side and the first from the SEC.

As a Lady Vol, she was named the 2018 SEC Offensive Player of the Year and earned second-team All-America honors during her senior season. The Jamaican also left her mark on the Tennessee record book, sitting in the top three in points and goals in a single season along with the school record for game-winning goals in a campaign.
