Jadon Sancho may once again factor in the first team plans at Manchester United if the club can appoint their preferred candidate as director of football.

The £72m star has been frozen out at Old Trafford since September when he alleged Erik ten Hag‘s stated reasons for dropping him prior to a clash with Arsenal were ‘completely untrue’.

After Sancho was banished from the first team dressing room and forced to train alone, the rift between the warring parties worsened when he refused to apologise to the Dutchman for his comments.

A departure for the 24-year-old was all but an inevitability once the transfer window opened in January, and Sancho ultimately joined former club Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season.

Recent reports claim that Sancho will leave the club permanently in the summer, and in any case would not return unless Ten Hag was fired.

However, the club’s pursuit of Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox could compel Sancho back to Old Trafford.

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Wilcox is a keen admirer of Sancho stemming from his days working at Man City’s academy which could sway the former England international on a potential return.

Wilcox has emerged as the United’s top target as they look to appoint a director of football as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s overhaul at the club.

On Monday Mail Sport reported that the club had made a formal offer to Southampton, offering to pay 12 months of Wilcox’s wages as compensation to the Championship side.
