Leeds United are set to sell Sam Greenwood in the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider.
Since signing on a season-long loan from Leeds, Greenwood has appeared in 31 of Boro’s 37 league games, starting 21 of them. However, in the last three games, he has had to make do with a position on the bench.
Greenwood’s loan deal may be made permanent by Boro for £1.5 million in the summer, although it was reported that decision is complicated by the fact that, should Leeds win promotion, the 21-year-old would be eligible for a raise in pay at Elland Road.
Now, according to the latest reports, the decision has been made for the transfer of Greenwood.
Despite losing his starting spot in the previous few weeks, Carrick is pleased with Greenwood’s response and believes the versatile forward will still be important to the team in the final stages of the season.
At Riverside Stadium, the England Under-21 international has mostly featured as a left winger.
Greenwood is not the only player who is leaving the club on a permanent basis.
After going on loan during the summer transfer window of the previous year, Luis Sinisterra and Robin Koch had already achieved permanent moves outside of Yorkshire.
Jack Harrison, Max Wober, Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen, and Brenden Aaronson may soon depart the team.
Boro manager has praised Greenwood and his attitude at the club. Michael Carrick said, as quoted by the Northern Echo:
“Sam has been great, he trains unbelievably well, really enjoys it here. You can see that.
“Yeah, of course, he’d like to have played more over the last week or so but he’s important for us, he’s had a big impact and he’s played a big part in what we’ve done and he will continue to do that.”
