Comets Set for Retro Night Showdown with St. Louis Ambush

Comets Crash Wave 10-4 Saturday Night

February 29, 2024 – Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)Kansas City Comets News Release

The Kansas City Comets (10-6-4) are set for a classic Retro Night matchup on Saturday with playoff implications when they host the St. Louis Ambush (4-10-4) at Cable Dahmer Arena.

This year’s retro jersey pays homage to the two-time NPSL champion Kansas City Attack franchise. The throwback jersey, based from the 1997-2000 era, was worn by indoor greats like Wes Wade, Kevin Koetters and Brian Loftin with the black player jersey while Warren Westcoat made many saves in the red goalkeeper jersey.

Bidding is open for the autographed player jerseys through Event.Gives.

The Comets have injected a big dose of momentum recently, winning three of their last four. Kansas City enters Saturday on short rest, coming from a Southern California sweep with a 9-4 win over the San Diego Sockers last Sunday and grinding out a 4-3 win over the Empire Strykers on Wednesday.

The Comets’ recent burst has taken them into third place in the Eastern Conference, but plenty of work is still required to secure a playoff spot. Milwaukee trails by a point with two games in hand while Baltimore trails by 11 points with five games in hand.

Zach Reget is making Koetters and the other Attack scoring greats proud as he leads the MASL with 37 points and 26 goals. Reigning Goalkeeper of the Week Nicolau Neto is also making Westcoat proud as he leads the MASL with 205 saves and hasn’t conceded more than four goals in the last four games.

The Ambush have already been eliminated from playoff contention but will be playing with fresh legs in front of a large contingent of traveling fans. STL is looking to spoil KC’s playoff hopes as the Ambush search for their first road win to avoid conceding the season series to KC.

The Comets will hope to keep building up towards the playoffs. They must improve their form inside Cable Dahmer Arena after losing three of their last four in overtime on home turf.
