RENTON, WASH.- Sounders FC today signed club legend Osvaldo “Ozzie” Alonso to a one-day contract, officially retiring him as a member of the Rave Green. Alonso and his family are visiting Seattle this week, spending Thursday with members of the current Sounders team, signing his contract and taking part in a press conference honoring his career with Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer and General Manager & Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel. The former midfielder and club captain joined Sounders FC in 2009, taking part in its inaugural season. Alonso went on to play for Seattle for 10 seasons, helping lift eight major trophies, including the club’s first MLS Cup in 2016. He is one of only three Sounders FC players to appear in over 300 matches in all competitions in the MLS era. Alonso is also being honored at Seattle’s home opener on Saturday as the team opens celebrations for its 50th anniversary (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
