St. Louis CITY SC Signs Michael Wentzel on Short-Term Loan Agreement from St Louis CITY2

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis CITY SC has signed centerback Michael Wentzel on a short-term loan agreement from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro team St Louis CITY2. Wentzel will be available for Tuesday’s Concacaf Champions Cup Round One Leg Two match against Houston Dynamo at 9:30 p.m. CT at Shell Energy Stadium.


Wentzel, 21, featured in both preseason camps for St. Louis CITY SC. He played in all five preseason matches.

In his first season in St. Louis, Wentzel played all 29 matches for St Louis CITY2 in 2023. The German centerback anchored a CITY2 backline to three clean sheets and helped lead the team seven wins in the last eight games to help push for a spot in the 2023 MLS Next Pro playoffs. He played 2,584 out of a possible 2,610 minutes for CITY2.

Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions Cup, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
