Borussia Dortmund have admitted it will be ‘very, very difficult’ to sign Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho permanently after his loan finishes.

The England international returned to his old club last month after United manager Erik ten Hag fell out with the £73million winger.

Sancho, 23, has contributed two assists in three appearances since returning to Dortmund – with the team winning all three matches – before he missed Friday night’s goalless draw at Heidenheim with a muscle issue.

His form is quite impressive considering Sancho had last played competitive football back on August 26, prior to Ten Hag banishing him to train with United’s academy teams.

United may look to offload Sancho in the summer but Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has already pretty much ruled out making his loan permanent.

Kehl said the situation was similar with Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen.

‘Unfortunately for both players, neither option was realistic. If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two-and-a-half years ago, then you know also that it might not be very, very difficult,’ he told Sky Sports Germany.

‘We naturally advocated for an option on him – and also with Ian – but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for now.’

United are keen for Sancho to perform strongly at Dortmund in case they decide to cut their losses with the £73m winger in the summer.

They are highly unlikely to recoup their full outlay on a player who struggled to hit the heights during the two full seasons spent at Old Trafford.
