There was a breakthrough in talks today after Villa’s third offer of £7.5m plus add-ons was rejected on Monday.

Rogers joined Boro from Manchester City for £1.5m and City hold a significant sell-on clause of 25 per cent.

Boro’s recruitment team of head of football Kieran Scott and chief executive Neil Bausor had been holding out for closer to their £12m to £15m valuation with a greater amount paid up front and have finally compromised on around £8million with a further £7m in add-ons.

Talks have advanced with the 21-year-old expected to undergo a medical over the next 24 hours once details are finalised.
