Jacob Ramsey is likely to stay at Aston Villa this month despite the midfielder being linked with a handful of top clubs in this window.

Ramsey has emerged as one of the club’s brightest talents recently – though a foot injury has kept him out for a huge chunk of a remarkable season that has seen Villa shoot up the table under boss Unai Emery and challenge for the top four.

The 22-year-old has only made four starts in the Premier League as result, with his only goal of the campaign coming in a 6-1 win off the bench against Brighton in September.

Ramsey is said to be catching the attention of clubs in both England and Europe – with recent reports from the Athletic claiming Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich have ‘made their admiration clear’.

However, Ramsey is now increasingly likely to stay put at Villa Park in the January transfer window, as revealed on Tuesday’s It’s All Kicking Off – Transfer Week podcast.

Villa value Ramsey at £50m and selling the academy graduate would give them room to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations.

However, when asked about the player’s future this week, Emery insisted he wanted him to remain at the club.

‘Jacob Ramsey is a very important player,’ he said.

‘He grew up here in the academy. His progression is clear and getting better. I want to keep him here with us.

‘Teams maybe involved in the possibility to sign him, because he has big potential with Aston Villa and England, 100 per cent.’
