West Ham are advancing in their move to land Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan.

Mail Sport understands both clubs are now close to reaching an agreement for the England midfielder to join until the end of the season.

Juventus are still lurking and could yet make a late move for Phillips but there is growing hope at the London Stadium that they are in pole position to land the former Leeds man.

The finer details of the deal still need concluding, but the Hammers are hopeful of completing the transfer early this week.

Phillips is believed to be open to joining the Hammers this month.

West Ham are open to taking Phillips on a permanent deal at the end of the season, though his sizeable wages at the Etihad would prove problematic towards any such deal.

A number of rival Premier League clubs have registered an interested in Phillips but have been put off by the conditions of the deal. It is understood City were initially looking for a £6million loan fee for Phillips, in addition to offloading a large percentage of his wages.

There have also been concerns that it may take Phillips a while to regain match sharpness after 18 months of not playing regular first team football.

Newcastle and Crystal Palace are among the teams to have looked into signing the 28-year-old.
