GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – Minnesota United FC today announced that Sean McAuley will continue in his role as interim head coach heading into the 2024 Major League Soccer season.

“I am personally grateful for Sean’s leadership and his willingness to continue in this role,” said MNUFC CEO Shari Ballard. “I have full confidence that he and our current staff are best positioned to successfully lead the team at this time given their collective coaching experience and familiarity with our players and club.”

McAuley, who will mark his sixth year with MNUFC, was named interim head coach with two games remaining in the 2023 MLS season. Prior to his time in Minnesota, Sean spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Orlando City SC and six seasons with the Portland Timbers, where he helped guide the Timbers to the 2015 MLS Cup championship. The Englishman began his coaching career in 2006 at English side Sheffield Wednesday F.C., where he spent seven years developing the academy.

In addition to McAuley, the remaining coaching staff will continue in their roles during 2024.

As planned, once newly appointed Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Khaled El-Ahmad arrives in Minnesota in January, he will determine the timing and lead the process of the head coach search.
