May 13, 2023 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC (6-3-2, 20 points) concludes its two-match road trip this week with its first matchup of the season against Houston Dynamo FC (4-3-2, 14 points) on Saturday, May 13 at Shell Energy Stadium. Seattle currently sits in first place in the Western Conference with 20 points through 11 matches, one point above St. Louis CITY SC, while Houston ranks sixth in the West with 14 points.
Sounders FC announced that it has signed Tacoma Defiance defender Cody Baker and midfielder Paul Rothrock to short-term agreements ahead of Saturday’s match. A club may sign a player, age 25 or younger during the league season, from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro) to a maximum of four short-term agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (maximum of 16 days). An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four short-term agreements.
Seattle leads the regular-season series 13-5-6 between the two sides, including a 3-5-4 record in Houston. The Rave Green also hold a 2-1-1 mark against Dynamo FC in postseason play. Since the start of the 2015 season, Sounders FC holds a 4-2-3 road record at Houston (including postseason).
The Rave Green began their road trip this week with a 2-1 loss to the LA Galaxy in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday evening, knocking them out of the domestic single-elimination tournament. Following Saturday’s matchup, Seattle returns home to face Austin FC on Wednesday, May 17 on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia, El Rey 1360 AM). The club then hits the road again to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, May 20 at BC Place (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia, El Rey 1360 AM).
