Pundit ‘concerned’ by Man Utd interest in England star; Arsenal tipped to pull off ‘move of the season’

Reported Arsenal target Declan Rice defends a corner against Mikel Arteta's side

Ally McCoist believes Declan Rice would be “the move of the season” if he joins Arsenal this summer, but says a switch to Manchester United would ‘concern’ him.

The England midfielder is expected to leave the Hammers at the end of the season with his contract set to expire in 2024.

Despite his contract situation, David Moyes’ side reportedly want at least £100million for their captain.

Arsenal remain ‘the most likely destination’ for Rice with Mikel Arteta eager to bolster his midfield ahead of the Gunners’ return to the Champions League.

Rice wants to play in Europe’s premier competition and is also being linked with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Blues will not play in Europe next season but are long-time admirers of Rice so cannot be ruled out.

United and Liverpool, meanwhile, are vying for a spot in the top four and the Red Devils’ current form has opened the door for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Manchester City can also not be ruled out, especially with Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan being linked with a move this summer.

Furthermore, the Premier League champions look to have missed out on Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, meaning Pep Guardiola could pursue a different midfielder.

Rangers legend McCoist has weighed up Rice’s options, saying a move to United would be ‘concerning’, while Liverpool are “crying out” for him.

He told talkSPORT on Tuesday morning: “I’d be really concerned if he’d be going to Manchester United at this moment, I’ve got to be honest.

“I think they’ve done really, really well. I’ve got to say and you’d have to say two cup finals and won the League Cup. If they could win the FA Cup which they’ll be second favourites to do and finish in the top four I think is a more than acceptable season. I think it’s a really good season.

“However, the last couple of games have just kind of set alarm bells ringing in my head looking at them. I think they’re probably farther away than I actually thought. So I’m not sure he’d be going there.

“Liverpool’s midfield crying out for Declan Rice, absolutely crying out.

“Chelsea have got an excellent midfield but I don’t know if they’re going to spend that much money.

“I would say wasted money spent the best part a half a billion pounds you’re finishing 12th and 13th that’s not great.

“I’ve got to be brutally honest here; if you’re an Arsenal fan, that’s the move of the season.”
