Kante to Arsenal? Former Chelsea, Gunners man says ‘why not’ in ‘good move for both parties’

William Gallas thinks “it would be nice” to see Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante move to London rivals Arsenal this summer.

Kante is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of this season.

He is reportedly keen to sign a new deal; however, the Blues are reluctant to give in to his demands given the Frenchman’s torrid injury record.

The 32-year-old has only managed seven appearances across all competitions this season after he suffered a serious hamstring injury last August.

Despite his injuries over the last few years, Kante remains a player in demand.

PSG and Barcelona are both believed to be keen, though the player would reportedly rather stay in England, preferably with a London-based club.

It was reported earlier this week that Kante has reached an agreement to join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer.

This deal does feel pretty unrealistic, though Mikel Arteta is in the market to sign one or two midfielders.

West Ham captain Declan Rice is the club’s number-one priority, while Brighton’s Moises Caicedo remains a target.

Kante would add a great deal of experience to this young Gunners team and could help install a much-needed winning mentality.

And Gallas – who knows a thing or two about switching one London club for another – thinks Kante would be an asset for Arteta.

“We all know the quality of N’Golo and what he can do,” the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham defender told GGRecon.

“He’s a player that any manager would like to have, so if Arsenal have the opportunity to sign him then yes, why not?

“If you’re playing in the Champions League next season, then you’re going to need more quality players in the squad and N’Golo Kante can bring different things.

“He already knows what it takes to play in the Premier League and it’s not too far from Chelsea, so it would be nice to see him remain in London and the Premier League.

Gallas added: “Unfortunately he’s been injured for a lot of this season, so everybody wants to see him back on the pitch with his big smile and if Arsenal can give him the opportunity to play in the Champions League, then it’s a good move for both parties.”

Arsenal could face Kante in their next match with the Gunners preparing to host Chelsea in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Arteta’s men will be looking to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday.

Now without a win in their previous four top-flight encounters, the Gunners are only two points…
