Man Utd, Villa in for Brentford star as Red Devils face Vanderson fight

Aston Villa’s resolve to sign Ivan Toney is said to be stronger than Man Utd’s, while the Red Devils also face competition for a Monaco defender…

VILLA, MAN UTD TO RIVAL CHELSEA FOR TONEY
Ivan Toney is set to be a man in demand this summer. Thursday’s Gossip suggested that Chelsea were considering a move for the Brentford striker, along with team-mate David Raya. Now we’re told that both Aston Villa and Manchester United are sniffing around the recently-capped England striker.

That’s the claim from Football Insider, which adds that United are wary of spending big money on the forward while FA charges hang over him. Villa, though, seem slightly less concerned, with Unai Emery keen to add a top-class striker this summer.

Toney will have two years remaining on his contract by the time the summer arrives, though Brentford have insisted they feel no pressure to sell their biggest stars.

UNITED VYING FOR VANDERSON
United are also looking for a right-back this summer, with talk of renewed interest in Monaco defender Vanderson.

Brentford thought they had the Brazilian in the bag when he left Gremio in January 2022 but a last-minute change of heart took him to France. Apparently, the player felt obliged to write to the Bees to apologise.

The Red Devils were sniffing around Vanderson after he had spent only half a season with Monaco but Erik ten Hag was told he was wasting his time.

RMC Sport says Ten Hag’s interest remains and the United boss will move again for the 21-year-old – but several other Premier League sides are also lurking round the defender.

CITY MAKING PLANS FOR TIERNEY
Manchester City are eyeing up full-backs this summer, despite Pep Guardiola’s current fondness for filling his defence with centre-backs.

The City boss has been interested in Kieran Tierney since the left-back’s Celtic days and Football Insider says Guardiola will try again to sign the Scotland star this summer.

Apparently, City have already made enquiries over a possible fee and whether Tierney would be interested in swapping north London for east Manchester. Newcastle are also known to be keen on the 25-year-old, who has lost his first XI place to ex-City defender Oleksandr Zinchencko.
