Ferdinand claims Man Utd squad player ‘as good as anyone out there’ in Brighton victory

Rio Ferdinand thinks Aaron Wan-Bissaka proved that he is good enough to play for Man Utd after his fine display in their win against Brighton in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

The Red Devils beat the Seagulls on penalties on Sunday after a goalless draw at Wembley with Erik ten Hag’s side progressing to the final to face neighbours Manchester City in June.

Solly March missed the vital kick for Roberto De Zerbi’s team after both sides converted their first six penalties, as Man Utd booked their second domestic final of the season following their Carabao Cup win in February.

When asked to pick his stand-out player against Brighton, Ferdinand selected Wan-Bissaka for special praise with the Man Utd right-back only starting ten Premier League matches this season.

Wan-Bissaka is out of contract at the end of June 2024 but he’s keen to stay at Man Utd after getting a chance in the team recently.

“It has been my intention to stay but during that period (out of the team) my aim was just to play, everyone loves playing and it makes me happy,” Wan-Bissaka told the Daily Telegraph.

“During that time I would do anything to play again.

“I am happy here, I have been happy since I’ve joined and that is what I worked for and what I continue to work for.”

Man Utd bounced back from their heavy defeat to Sevilla in midweek, which saw them exit the Europa League, and Ferdinand was critical of Erik ten Hag’s side in their 3-0 loss.

On the match against Sevilla, Ferdinand said: “Poor, weren’t at the races. You can’t dress it up any way different to that. When you go into a game of that magnitude you have got to perform, the first minute of the game you have got to be on the front foot.

“They started that game the way they finished the last game, going 2-0 up at Old…
