Kompany ‘refuses’ to ‘engage’ in Chelsea talk as Burnley boss is asked about replacing Potter

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany refused to ‘engage’ in talks about his future amidst reported interest from Premier League giants Chelsea.

The former Manchester City captain is now the second favourite to replace Graham Potter after Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann withdrew from negotiations.

Ex-Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is the odds-on favourite as things stand and it does look increasingly likely he will be in charge at Stamford Bridge next season.

It is believed that there are three names in contention to be the next Chelsea manager – with the club’s recruitment team narrowing their search down to Pochettino, Kompany and one unnamed boss.

Kompany has done an outstanding job in his first year at Turf Moor, guiding the Clarets to promotion to the Premier League.

“I said I’m not engaging on any of these conversations,” he said when asked about the Chelsea links.

“I have too much at this moment in time in my head in terms of wanting to win football matches. That’s the only thing I care about.”

As mentioned prior, Burnley have secured promotion back to the Premier League, but are yet to claim the Championship title.

Surprisingly, Kompany’s side suffered their first home loss of the season on Saturday when Queens Park Rangers snatched a late 2-1 victory, putting the Clarets’ title celebrations on hold.

“You have to respect the fact we’re playing teams who aren’t going to roll over for us,” Kompany said after the defeat.

“I’m not disappointed, I actually expected it. What it shows is we’re inexperienced in these trophy-winning moments.

“I had the experience as a player at (Manchester) City and it’s an incredible learning experience – you have to keep your game simple and play to win the…
