Chelsea are set to sign 18-year-old winger Diego Moreira on a free transfer from Benfica in the summer according to reports in Portugal. 

The talented teenager has emerged as one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe after his impressive performances in Benfica’s youth ranks. 

Chelsea have fended off interest from both Paris Saint-Germain and Champions League semi-finalists AC Milan to land a deal for Moreira according to Portuguese outlet Record.  

Born in Liege, Moreira holds duel citizenship and has represented both Belgium and Portugal at youth international level as well as being eligible to turn out for Germany and Guinea-Bissau. 

Moreira joined the Liga Portugal leaders from Standard Liege in August 2020 and was promoted to the under-23 squad the following season at the age of 17.

Since then, Moreira went on to establish himself as a regular starter for Benfica’s reserve side and as of the beginning of 2022, has been a member of the first team squad. 

Moreira was also a key member of the Benfica side that won the 2021-22 edition of the UEFA Youth League. 

On the route to the final, Moreira found the net in the group stage clash with Bayern Munich, bagged a brace and an assist in a 4-0 win over rivals Sporting CP in the quarter-final and came up with two assists during the 6-0 win over RB Salzburg in the final. 

As a result, the youth outfit became the first Benfica side at any level to bring home a major European trophy since the 1961-62 European Cup led by a 20-year-old Euesbio.
