KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – South Georgia Tormenta FC obtained its first-ever victory against One Knoxville SC in tonight’s 0-2 win in Knoxville, Tennessee. Matheus Cassini scored and assisted in tonight’s road victory, while Jackson Khoury scored his third goal of the season and is now the leading goalscorer for Tormenta FC.

South Georgia dominated the first half with a display of attacking tactics coming alive. Despite not being successful on set pieces, South Georgia was able to create many threatening chances throughout the first half. Nick Akoto, for example, was able to create a shot on goal after a cross found him. The header was blocked by the opposing team’s goalkeeper.

A slow start to the second half allowed the home team to show signs of life and put South Georgia on the back foot. The flow of the game shifted after Matheus Cassini entered in the 66th minute of the match. Within four minutes of entering the game, Cassini made an instant impact, scoring the first goal of the match. A strong press by the Brazilian saw him beat the One Knox defense, and despite a tight angle, Cassini’s strong shot beat the goalkeeper, who did not see the attempt coming.

Nearing the end of the game, a strong offensive push saw Tormenta FC get its second goal of the night. Khoury recovered the ball near half field and instantly saw Cassini’s run on the right side of the pitch, Cassini easily outran the One Knox defensive line, getting to the corner of the penalty box to cross the ball into Khoury, who did not hesitate to take the shot upon receiving the ball. The angled shot beat the poorly positioned goalkeeper, who was unable to do anything. Khoury has now scored three goals in three consecutive matches.

To note, Pablo Jara was subbed out in the 79th minute as a precaution following a head injury.

Following Friday’s match, Tormenta FC will go on the road for its third consecutive road game to take on Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Following its Open Cup fixture, Tormenta FC will host the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium.

South Georgia is poised to make a strong push for the championship title in the upcoming season. Fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of 2023, with Season Tickets now available for purchase.
