TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced on Wednesday that Richmond Kickers’ midfielder Nil Vinyals was named the league’s March Player of the Month.
Vinyals earns his first-ever Player of the Month award from USL League One in his fifth season in the league. The recognition comes off the back of Vinyal’s Week 2 Player of the Week award in which the midfielder was instrumental in the Kickers’ 1-0 road victory over rivals Greenville Triumph SC.
In that match in the Upstate, Vinyals set up Kharlton Belmar’s game-winning goal early in the first half while completing 100 percent of his dribbles, creating four chances, and winning five fouls.
“It has been a great start of the season for the team where we showed that possession-based football will allow us to be consistent throughout the season, which ultimately helps me be more involved during games,” Vinyals said. “I’m happy to have won this award, and I’m excited to see more Kickers players and staff be nominated in the future.”
During the month of March, Vinyals was the straw that stirred the Kickers’ attack. He led the team in shots on target, created chances, completed passes in the final third, and successful dribbles.
The Spaniard picked up where he left off in the 2022 season when he led the team and finished tied for third in the league in created chances. During that record-setting 2022 season, Vinyals was named Player of the Week in week 1 while notching four more placements on the Team of the Week in 2022.
“We have watched Nil grow as a midfielder here in Richmond through his hard work and cerebral approach to training every day. We are happy he is being recognized for a quality start to the season, and we look forward to his continued growth as he pulls the strings for us.”
