Pundit believes ‘outstanding’ Arsenal star has better ‘all-round game’ than David Beckham

Bukayo Saka, Arsenal, March 2023

Gabby Agbonlahor feels “outstanding” Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has a better “all-round game” than David Beckham, and he’d “pick Saka over Beckham”.

Saka has grown into one of the most talented players in England over the past couple of seasons. In the last campaign, he scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League.

He’s already beaten that combined tally this season. Indeed, the winger has directly contributed to 22 league goals this term, having scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists.

Saka has been one of the main contributors in the Gunners side this season. That’s helped them have a great season – they’re currently top of the league, six points above Manchester City, having played one game more.

Amid Saka’s great period of form, Agbonlahor thinks the Englishman has already surpassed a legend of the game.

“I’d pick Saka over Beckham if I could pick an England team. I said it during the World Cup, I would have Saka over Beckham,” he said on talkSPORT.

“When I saw Saka at the World Cup, he was outstanding. In the Euros just gone as well, he was outstanding. Kept [Phil] Foden out of the team.

“If I’m picking my best England team, I’m having Saka on that right-hand side. Pace, scores goals, more of an all-round game. Can take players on, score goals, get assists as well. I’m picking Saka.”

The Arsenal forward has shown his quality during his time as an international footballer. Indeed, in 26 appearances for England, he’s scored eight goals and provided seven assists.

In the 2022 World Cup, he was one of the brightest sparks in the Three Lions side. He scored a brace in the opener, followed by a goal in the round of 16 and he also assisted England’s only goal in the quarter-final loss to France.

However, it’s slightly premature to call him a better player than one of England’s best ever. He’s still just 21 years of age, and while he’s had two good years, that’s still just two years.

There’s no denying he’s a fantastic talent and is sure to have a great career. Beckham, however, has already had a great career, and performed at the top level for much longer than Saka has so far.

While the Arsenal youngster could feasibly surpass him at some point, he’s not there yet.
