RALEIGH – The Wolfpack softball team defeated USC-Upstate, 2-0, Tuesday evening at Dail Stadium.

The Pack was defensively paced by freshman pitcher Rylee Wyman who recorded her first career shutout in her first complete game. Wyman finished the evening with three strikeouts and only walked one. The shutout is the second for the Pack this season and the first by a freshman since 2019.

The Spartans got runners into scoring position in both the third and fourth inning, but were unable to cross home and take a lead.

Sophomore Hannah Goodwin led the Pack offensively as she recorded a double down the right line in the bottom of the third before drilling a ball over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the fifth. The home run brought in two runs and was the sixth of the season for the third baseman.

Goodwin’s homer was only the second off Spartan pitcher Alyssa Kelly this season.

In the top of the sixth, the Wolfpack recorded a double play as Peyton Darnell grounded to Goodwin at third. Goodwin then threw to Kaylee Lambrecht, who was covering second, to get Aime Johnson out before throwing to Haley Haislip at first to get Darnell out. The double play was the sixth for NC State this season.
