Man Utd can do what Arsenal couldn’t as £80million midfielder bid ‘would be accepted’

Moises Caicedo, Brighton, April 2023

A bid of £80million from Manchester United for Moises Caicedo ‘would be accepted’ according to a report, despite the fact the Brighton midfielder signed a new deal.

Caicedo has risen from general obscurity to being one of the most well-respected midfielders in the Premier League. He played just eight top-flight games last season, his first in the league.

This term, he’s missed just one game for Brighton, and is one of their best players. Such a meteoric rise is never likely to go unnoticed by the big hitters.

Indeed, in January, Arsenal attempted twice to land the midfielder. They started with a £60million bid, followed by a bid totalling £70million when that was not accepted.

The second was also turned down, and Caicedo remained at the Amex. Since the winter transfer window, the Ecuadorian has penned a new deal that will see him remain at the club until 2027.

That would suggest that Brighton, who turned lucrative offers in January, can now keep Caicedo locked away.

However, Football Insider suggests there is still the genuine prospect that he leaves the club. That report states Manchester United, who have been linked, ‘could land him for £80million despite his new contract’.

Indeed, it states his new deal ‘will have no bearing on a potential transfer’. It’s not just Manchester United who are going to be in the mix, though they’re the only named club.

Indeed, Football Insider continues to say that the Red Devils ‘have not been put off by the midfielder’s new terms’.

However, the report suggests Caicedo is ‘set to field offers from a number of top clubs’, not just United. Arsenal links have remained despite their failed pursuit in the summer, along with links to Chelsea and Newcastle United.

As such, the prospect of another saga involving the star is possible in the summer, despite him having penned a new deal. It’s not clear whether United have the advantage at this point.

While they’re the only named club and the report suggests an £80million bid from them would be successful, it seems there’s no reason why any of the other sides couldn’t have the same success if they were to bid that sum.

As such, it could be another hectic period in Caicedo’s career. In any case, he’s likely to be in a good position come the end of it, wherever he ends up.
