Pack Drops Day One in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE – The Wolfpack softball team fell on day one of the Purple & Gold Challenge hosted by LSU. The wind was an added challenge for the Pack throughout the day as it blew north around 15 mph. The Pack struggled to get runners in scoring position throughout the afternoon.

Freshman pitcher Madison Inscoe opened the morning by striking out the first two batters faced. After the Pack ended the top half of the first, they took their shot in the batter’s box. With two outs, Amanda Hasler stepped up to the plate and recorded a single up the left side to get the Wolfpack’s first hit of the afternoon. Both teams went scoreless through the first inning. 

Tech recorded back-to-back hits that later advanced on a wild pitch to get into scoring position. The Wolfpack’s defense was unbeatable as shortstop MaKayla Marbury grabbed the third out to end the Bulldog’s chances of taking the early lead. 

To open the offensive efforts in the bottom of the third, sophomore Taylor Ensley slammed a ball out of the park that went foul at the last second, forcing her back into the box. The Wolfpack’s offensive efforts came to a quick end as Tech got three outs in three batters faced. 

Both teams remained scoreless through the fifth and the Bulldogs scored in the top of the sixth to take the 1-0 lead.
