Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and more given hope of huge £60m+ transfer as star eyes ‘next step’

Arsenal target Alexis Mac Allister celebrates scoring a goal

Alexis Mac Allister hopes to be the next high-profile Brighton sale as Premier League leaders Arsenal and clubs across Europe have lined up to sign him.

Brighton have made it a part of their hugely successful model to sell at least one first-team player every summer transfer window and use the proceeds for squad reinforcement, while finding hidden gems through their brilliant scouting networks in South America and Japan to mould into the next players off the conveyor belt.

Benjamin White was sold to Arsenal for £50m in July 2021, Spurs bought Yves Bissouma for £25m in June 2022 and Chelsea signed Marc Cucurella for a deal worth £62m in August 2022, while Leandro Trossard, Dan Burn and Neal Maupay have also joined Premier League rivals for eight-figure sums.

Mac Allister is a prime candidate to be the next player Brighton sell on for a huge profit, particularly as his own father suggested that was “the idea” in February.

A £6.9m signing from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019, Mac Allister has gone on to score 13 goals in 84 Premier League appearances while breaking into the Argentina national team, becoming a world champion with La Albiceleste in 2022.

Despite signing a new contract until June 2025 at the end of last year, the 24-year-old has already attracted major interest from clubs across the continent.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham are listed as potential suitors by 90min, who describe Mac Allister as ‘ready to leave’ and ‘take the next step in his career’.

The outlet also states that Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus and RB Leipzig are monitoring the situation, while Brighton realise their players will be coveted again this summer but they ‘have no desire to part ways’ with them as they wish to build a side to compete with the best rather than selling to them.

They have, however, ‘long proven to be willing to cash in’ when the price is right.

Manchester City and Man Utd have been linked with Mac Allister, as transfer journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that both had ‘discussed’ the £60m+ player as an option ‘internally’. Arsenal are known admirers.

Graeme Souness believes Mac Allister, who the pundit felt was better than Lionel Messi in the World Cup final win over France, would be a great acquisition for a Champions League side.

‘The ball he played for their second goal in the final, for Angel Di Maria, was sublime,’ Souness said. ‘Messi put him away around the corner. He took one look, had…
