Romano reveals top Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea target is ‘expected to leave’ club this summer

Reported Chelsea target David Raya with Bournemouth players after a match

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is reportedly expected to leave the club at the end of the season with Man Utd and Chelsea believed to be interested.

The Spaniard has impressed for the Bees since their promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

He has reportedly rejected two offers to extend his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, however.

This has cast huge doubt over his long-term future in west London and with several big clubs in England looking to sign a new goalkeeper, this summer could be the perfect time to seek a move elsewhere.

Man Utd’s David de Gea has been at the club since 2011 and his best years are beyond him.

For a number of years, the former Atletico Madrid youngster saved the Red Devils’ blushes and a few of their below-par seasons would have been a lot worse if not for the flying Spaniard.

However, De Gea has become pretty error-prone and despite a decent run of form, needs to be replaced by Erik ten Hag.

One of the 32-year-old’s biggest flaws is his ability to play with the ball at his feet, which incidentally is something that Raya is extremely good at.

Ten Hag is reportedly keen for De Gea to sign a new contract with his current deal expiring at the end of 2022-23 – though there is the option to extend – but the Man Utd hierarchy wants the player to significantly lower his salary.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have been utilising the most expensive goalkeeper in history, Kepa Arrizabalaga, this season with first-choice ‘keeper Edouard Mendy injured.

Kepa has struggled at Stamford Bridge but has been in good form this season, while his Senegalese teammate has been uncharacteristically poor over the last 18 months.

Although Kepa has improved under Graham Potter, he is probably not the long-term solution given the high-profile mistakes he has made since moving to the capital.

Tottenham are another team expected to be in the market for a new ‘keeper in the summer.

Club captain Hugo Lloris – like De Gea – is past his best and errors have become far too frequent in his game.

At the age of 37, the Frenchman will probably leave The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when his contract expires in June 2024.

Replacing him sooner than that should be a top priority for whoever is in charge next season – with head coach Antonio Conte expected to leave at the end of the current campaign.

Raya would be an ideal replacement for any of the three Premier League sides mentioned, though I feel like Spurs need him more than anyone…
